Leslie Reynolds can't do a kick turn or an ollie. At 56, she's not about to try a 180, let alone a 360. But Reynolds, whose 15-year-old son Zack Taylor has been skateboarding since he was 3, is behind South Kitsap's skater crowd all the way.

The Tony Hawk Foundation Board of Directors has announced its Spring 2009 skatepark grant awards. Twice annually the foundation’s Board selects skatepark projects that best match several criteria.

First published in 2007 by the Tony Hawk Foundation, Skaters For Public Skateparks, and the International Association of Skateboard Companies, the ultimate guide for community-skatepark advocates was available for free, and supplies quickly disappeared.

The Tony Hawk Foundation Board of Directors met in December to select the recipients of its Fall 2008 Skatepark Grants. Among the 27 communities to receive a grant is Columbia, South Carolina, whose proposed 16,000-square-foot Owens Field Skatepark project will be the first custom-concrete skatepark in South Carolina, and also the first skatepark project in the state to qualify for a Tony Hawk Foundation grant.

Action-sports pros and the entertainment elite were on-hand Sunday for the fifth-annual Activision Presents Stand Up For Skateparks, where over $1-million was raised for the Tony Hawk Foundation and its mission to bring free, quality skateparks to low-income communities across the United States.

Warrensburg skaters look forward to skatepark Grand Opening. The skate park, whose design and development have been in the works since 2000, is finally ready for all the skaters in town and its grand opening was Saturday.
